This blog was inspired the summer I first experienced the Connecticut wine trail passport, which I stumbled upon by accident. I had plans one early summer weekend to go hiking with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. Unfortunately it appeared we were going to get rained out. Rather than try to reschedule we looked for an alternate activity and decided to visit a vineyard for a wine tasting. Neither of us had ever been to one before and did not know what to expect. Despite the rain we had a wonderful time and still got to enjoy some beautiful local scenery. And so at the end of the tasting when they handed us the passport I found myself open to a whole new world of day tripping.
After visiting a few wineries that often featured products from local farms to accompany their wine, I found myself overwhelmed with possible local gems to explore and taste. A little internet research led me to even more information on farms and events to visit with many local tastes to try — and an idea was born.
To be honest I am interested myself in seeing exactly which directions this blog takes me, but my starting goals are to critique and review the local foods, restaurants, products and places I experience and also to share recipes or cooking and baking experiments I am inspired to try by my exploration.
I am a somewhat trained baker and have worked as one by trade for a few years in the past, but that is not currently my livelihood. I do however love all things culinary and think this blog might be a good creative outlet to let me explore some of my passions — food, writing, friends, and nature. It will probably focus on local Connecticut fare as that is where I am located, but I hope to include some discoveries in my travels as well.
If you stayed with me this far, I hope you find my offerings to be informative and enjoyable. Also I’d love to hear suggestions or ideas for places or products that are worth seeking out. I am nothing if not curious!
